The Ocean Signal HR1E Hydrostatic Release Unit (HRU) is the OEM replacement hydrostatic release mechanism for Ocean Signal Category I / Float-Free EPIRB automatic release housings. In the event that a vessel sinks, the HR1E responds to increasing water pressure and releases the EPIRB from its mounting housing, allowing the beacon to float free and activate.
Hydrostatic Release Units used in Category I float-free EPIRB installations must be replaced every two years from the date of installation. The HR1E replacement kit includes the hydrostatic release unit, installation instructions, and replacement hardware needed to service compatible Ocean Signal automatic release housings.
The Hydrostatic Release Unit is a critical component of a Category I EPIRB installation and should be inspected as part of routine EPIRB maintenance. Check the installation date and expiration information regularly and replace the HRU at the required interval so the float-free release system remains ready for emergency deployment.
