Sensar Marine

Sensar Marine, winner of the 2023 National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) Technology award, was founded by Paal Kaperdal, who envisioned a better relationship between a boat and its owner. A lifelong boater himself, he had experienced first-hand the challenges of boat ownership, especially when far away from your boat. After significant development and thorough testing, the flagship product, the Boat + Bilge Monitor, was launched in 2019. This introduced a solution designed specifically for use in boats, which could run 24/7, 365 days a year without draining boat batteries. The Boat Monitor sends data continuously to Sensar Marine's private cloud network, which organizes and sends data to the Sensar Marine mobile app.

Sensar Marine has introduced a way for boaters to monitor their boats from their mobile phones, and be notified when their boat needs attention. To date, Boat Monitors have been installed in thousands of boats of all types, in harbors around the world.

NMEA Technology Award

Judges said the award goes to a device that offers a “compelling blend of innovation and value. Its bilge monitoring function offers a level of insight into a boat’s health that’s not found on far more expensive systems. Plus, simple installation, shock monitoring and an intuitive app make keeping tabs on your boat easy.”

The NMEA Technology Award names a single marine electronics product that scores highest in the same four criteria categories that are used for the Best New Product Award. The judges chose Sensar Marine’s Boat Monitor as the winner from among eight entries.
