OVERVIEW

The Comar i320W Bidirectional NMEA WiFi Interface is an upgraded version of the i300W. It provides a low cost method of setting up a wireless network on-board (802.11b/g/n), enabling you to stream your boat’s NMEA 0183 electronic data, such as AIS data, position, depth, wind, compass heading to your tablet, smartphone, PC, or WiFi enabled chart-plotter.

Want to wirelessly connect the AIS & GPS data from a GX2200 radio to an iPad or other mobile device?
Check out this blog article with step-by-step instructions on how to use our Comar I320W NMEA to WIFI Gateway to easily add wireless support to your GX2200.

Simple to set up, the i320W has 2 NMEA inputs which are multiplexed to a single high speed data output which transmits NMEA 0183 data over WiFi and provides communication with any suitable NMEA devices. With 2 inputs, it can accept NMEA 0183 data at 4800 from
any GPS, Chartplotter or other navigation instruments or 38,400 baud input from any AIS receiver or transponder, so you only need one unit to collect and transmit all the navigation data of your boat via the wireless gateway.

For a vessel with a Chartplotter at the nav station, using the Comar i320W NMEA to WiFi interface, the helmsman can view all the navigation data on deck via a suitable device, and for boats with the Chartplotter at the helm, it’s possible to check all the critical navigation data down below, making your boat’s data truly portable.

Great product. Installed it to replace an existing USB NMEA multiplexer and the wi-fi setup works perfectly. One thing to note: For use in "Client Mode" connecting to an existing wi-fi router, the network must be 802.11bgn, 2.4Ghz with WPA2 security.

Used the i320W as the wifi interface for an em-trak B953 Class B SOTDMA AIS Transponder with Integrated Splitter. I opted to have a separate wifi interface rather than built in to the AIS, as installation was in a 55' aluminum boat. I wanted the wifi to have line of sight to the cockpit to get its signal out of the metal box. So installed the AIS under side deck where the vhf antenna was located, but put the i320W in the midline on the cabin headliner, about ten feet from the main hatch. Pay attention to the fuse requirements. Excellent wifi signal in cockpit and everywhere else except the foredeck. Manual was easy to follow, and once hooked up to the em-trak, the whole thing was plug and play. Just had to follow the instructions. Powered them up, and the LED's lit up as they should, and bingo: AIS on iphone in cockpit on Navionics in no time at all. No monkeying around with setting up the software at all. Wonderful. This was after a number of really helpful emails with Milltech answering my dumb questions.
