The Furuno FA70 is a black-box Class B+ AIS transceiver designed for boaters who want the added transmit power, faster reporting performance and improved slot management of 5W SOTDMA AIS. It is an especially clean fit for Furuno NavNet systems, but it can also interface with many AIS-capable chartplotters, radars and navigation software platforms through NMEA 2000, NMEA 0183 or USB.
With an integrated VHF antenna splitter, built-in GPS receiver capability and support for both SO-TDMA and CS-TDMA operation, the FA70 gives you a compact, professional AIS installation without requiring a separate AIS display.

AIS improves situational awareness by exchanging vessel name, MMSI, position, course, speed and other navigation data with nearby AIS-equipped vessels. The FA70 builds on that foundation with Class B+ SOTDMA performance, giving your vessel stronger and more consistent visibility in busy traffic areas.
Unlike standard 2W CSTDMA Class B transponders, the FA70 can transmit at 5W in SOTDMA mode and uses organized time-slot access to improve performance in congested AIS environments. This makes it a strong choice for coastal cruising, offshore passages, commercial support vessels and Furuno-based helm upgrades.
The FA70 is a black-box AIS system, so AIS targets are viewed on a connected Furuno NavNet display, compatible chartplotter, radar, PC navigation software or other AIS-capable display device.
The FA70 includes an internal VHF splitter so the AIS and VHF radio can share a single VHF antenna. This simplifies installation, but the system still requires a properly installed AIS-compatible VHF antenna. For best performance, antenna quality, cable quality and connector installation are critical.
