The Comar R550NGi combines a high-sensitivity dual-channel AIS receiver, commercial-grade GPS/GLONASS receiver and built-in ARM-based microcomputer in one compact network appliance. Designed for commercial shore-based monitoring, it can process, filter and forward AIS and GNSS data directly across an Ethernet or Wi-Fi network.
Multiple R550 Series receivers can be deployed as part of a wider coastal surveillance network, making the R550NGi well suited for ports, government agencies, vessel tracking services, search and rescue organizations and other operators that require reliable maritime traffic data from multiple receiving locations.
Unlike a conventional AIS receiver that simply outputs received data to another device, the R550NGi incorporates a Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 with a 64-bit quad-core ARM Cortex-A72 processor, 1GB of RAM and 16GB of onboard eMMC storage.
This integrated processing platform allows proprietary or application-specific software to operate directly on the receiver. AIS and GNSS information can be filtered, processed, stored or forwarded according to the requirements of the monitoring network.
The R550NGi is supplied with Comar Connect data management software for advanced AIS and GNSS data forwarding and network configuration.
The R550NGi can connect to a local or wide-area monitoring network through its Gigabit Ethernet port or built-in dual-band Wi-Fi interface. The network must be DHCP-enabled during initial setup, after which a fixed IP address can be configured.
Comar Connect provides advanced AIS and GNSS data forwarding capabilities, while the onboard computing environment allows the R550NGi to be incorporated into networks using proprietary monitoring or data management software.
An integrated 32-channel GNSS receiver supports both GPS and GLONASS constellations. This provides a local position and timing source alongside the AIS data received from surrounding vessels, Aids to Navigation, base stations and other AIS-equipped assets.
The GNSS receiver supports GPRMC data and offers sensitivity of up to -163 dBm.
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth: These interfaces are available through the Raspberry Pi operating system and are not configured through Comar Connect.
USB host ports: The two USB-A ports are intended for peripherals such as a keyboard, mouse or USB storage device. They are not AIS or GNSS data output ports.
Installation environment: The R550NGi has an IP40 enclosure and is intended for installation in a protected, dry location.
Depending on the information transmitted by surrounding AIS equipment, the R550NGi can receive vessel name, MMSI number, position, speed over ground, course over ground, vessel type, call sign, heading, rate of turn, navigational status, vessel dimensions, destination and other AIS information.
