A: This antenna works well inside the cabin but won't be as good as a marine grade mushroom style outside the cabin but it will be decent and provide acceptable performance. We have lots of customers using them with great results.

A: This antenna takes 3-5 volts DC upstream via the coax to power the low noise amplifier built into the antenna. This is standard for pretty much all GPS antennas used with AIS transponders.

Yes, the Portable GPS Antenna can be oriented in any position—vertical, horizontal, inverted, etc.—without affecting its performance. GPS antennas are designed to receive signals from satellites across a wide portion of the sky, so orientation is flexible as long as the antenna has a reasonably clear view of the sky. That said, for best results, the face of the GPS antenna should generally have a reasonably unobstructed view upward toward the sky, as GPS performance depends on maintaining line-of-sight to multiple satellites.
