This transponder works really well. It took a little while to acquire GPS when it first powered on, maybe 5-10 minutes, but then all the status lights became happy and it's behaved flawlessly. It's in a nav station locker on a Cape Dory 30 sailboat. It locks to GPS in under a couple minutes (which is less than everything else takes to complain, it might be quicker) and never has needed an extra antenna. The gain on the VHF is good; I still pull in USCG from about 80nm away and see AIS targets at 20nm or greater. Best part is, the 742 chartplotter now "sees" me as the sending vessel and does not report collision alarms on myself!
