Part Number:SR162
The  SR162 is a dual-channel receiver designed for both recreational and professional use. The  dual-channel design makes the SR162 and SR162G  the most appropriate Smart Radio devices for use in areas where Class B AIS transponders are in use since Class B transponders provide position updates less often than commercial Class A transponders.

The SR162G has all of the features of the SR162 but also includes an integrated GPS and an external GPS antenna.

For an easy-to-set-up PC-based system, use the SR162, with the Sabrent USB to Serial Adapter.

CautionThe SR162 can be used with computer-based navigation solutions using a standard RS232 serial port interface. It is not designed to be used with most chart plotters (such as Raymarine C,  E and G Series or Garmin 4000 and 5000 series).  If you need an AIS solution for use with a chart plotter, please consider one of our NMEA-compatible AIS receivers or any of our AIS transponders.

Product Features
  • Full time dual channel receiver
  • Able to receive AIS information from both AIS channels simultaneously
  • High-sensitivity AIS data reception
  • Line of sight reception similar to marine VHF reception distances
  • Very low power consumption
  • Receives AIS Class A and Class B vessel reports
  • Sends information to a PC via a serial interface
  • Ability to track and display information on multiple targets
  • Easy installation: connect a VHF antenna (not included), 12 volt DC power and a serial cable to your PC
  • Can be used with your existing VHF marine radio antenna with an appropriate splitter
  • Can be used to consolidate incoming NMEA positional data from a GPS into a combined high-speed data stream on a single serial port.

Software Support

The  SR162 can be used with many popular computer-based marine navigation packages. Any navigation package that can process NMEA VDM data from a serial port should work with the SR162.

Seems to do everything it says it does. No problems with it so far. NB! for a home/land based set up you need a 12V power converter.
