NEW! Quick & Easy Online Form
Free Class B AIS Programming

FCC regulations require Class B AIS units to be programmed with MMSI and vessel information before shipping to US addresses. Milltech Marine provides this service free of charge.

Common Questions About MMSI

To make it more convenient for you to provide vessel information, we have prepared this quick and easy online form. Please complete and submit at time of order.

If you prefer to not use the online form, you can download the Vessel Static Information form and fax (425-484-6218) or email.

We are required to have proof of valid MMSI, so please also send a copy of the issuing document.

If you do not have a copy of your MMSI assignment, contact the issuing authority or organization. To search the
FCC licensing database, click here. For BoatUS information, click here.

Go here if you do not have an FCC Ships Station License and MMSI and wish to obtain one.

If you are an international customer, and the ship-to address is outside of the US, you are not required to have the Class B AIS transponder programmed before shipping, but we are happy to perform this service for you.
receive AIS broadcasts from surrounding vessels, but can transmit AIS information to be "seen" by surrounding traffic. This puts you in direct communication with other AIS vessels so you can avoid situations that might endanger your vessel and crew.
  • A dual parallel AIS receiver, AIS transmitter
  • NMEA 0183 (RS-422) & RS-232 serial outputs
  • Easy installation with PC, chartplotter or dedicated display
  • Built-in 12-channel GPS receiver which also acts as back-up GPS. [NOTE: the internal GPS does not have an internal GPS antenna therefore does not work unless the optional AMEC GPS antenna is attached]
  • Also supports using an external GPS source via a NMEA connection as an alternative to using the internal GPS and optional GPS antenna.
  • The AMEC AGGRESSOR-111-C Marine GPS Antenna is available as an option
  • GPS sends standard NMEA output sentences: GPGSV, GPGSA, GPGGA, GPRMC
  • The inbound NMEA connection can use the following NMEA sentences: RMC, GGA, GSA, HDT
  • Excellent Windows-based AMEC AIS Viewer program with Chart & Alphanumeric views included at no extra charge
  • Rugged anodized aluminum housing for durability and RF shielding
  • Splash-proof connectors and front-&-back-panel gaskets for extra protection from elements (IPX5)
  • External power switch on back panel
  • Runs on 12v or 24v DC power
  • Requires an optional VHF antenna or appropriate antenna splitter
  • Optional Bluetooth enabled version with Bluetooth antenna allows for wireless communication to Bluetooth devices that display AIS data. NOTE: This Bluetooth interface is not yet compatible with the Apple iPad Bluetooth.

A Versatile AIS Solution

The CAMINO-101 Class B AIS Transponder can also be used as a dual-channel AIS receiver and GPS receiver. This allows you to connect the unit to computers and chartplotters and use the transponder's GPS and AIS information from other nearby vessels to display your position and other vessels on AIS-capable applications and devices. In other words, this device can function as an AIS Class B transponder, a GPS receiver and a dual channel AIS receiver all at the same time.

KEY FEATURES

Silent Mode & SRM
These functions are easily enabled in software to start/stop transmitting position or send a Safety Related Message (SRM). A Silent Mode / SRM switch box is also now available as an extra cost option.

Water Resistant
Rugged hard-anodized aluminum case with sealed connectors and front and back-panel gaskets for water resistance and a longer lifetime in harsh marine environments.

Easy Connection to Computer

The RS-232 interface allows serial cable connection to computers (or use optional USB-Serial adapter for a USB connection).

NMEA Standard Interface
The CAMINO-101 Class B is designed to be compatible with all modern chartplotters and PC's. The NMEA 0183 RS422 interface is the standard in marine connections and ensures simple installation.

Should I get the optional GPS antenna?
The simple answer is YES. While the CAMINO-101 supports using an external GPS NMEA data source, connecting the NMEA wires from your GPS or chartplotter requires technical knowledge on its NMEA output wiring and configuring output formats and baud rates. In addition, some older GPS units (e.g. Furuno GP32) will not work. Unless you are 100% sure you know how to do this, it is recommended you check the box for the optional AMEC GPS antenna that was designed to be used with the CAMINO-101.
We also have a portable magnet-mount GPS antenna available that works well under most decks. This antenna is $5 when purchased with a CAMINO-101.
Ability to use an external GPS source instead of the internal GPS system
The CAMINO-101 can now use an external NMEA GPS data feed instead of using its internal GPS. This allows the user to interface the CAMINO to a standard chartplotter or NMEA GPS and use the GPS signal from the external device. Simply connect the NMEA output from the other GPS device to the NMEA input on the CAMINO and make sure both devices are set to use the same baud rate. An external antenna must not be connected when the CAMINO is powered up in order to use the external GPS function. For more information see our blog post here.

Designed to Internationally-recognized Standards
  • IEC62287-1 Class B, IEC61162-1, EC61162-2
  • This Class B transponder is approved for use in the USA by the US Coast Guard and the FCC.
  • The AMEC CAMINO-101 provides:

    • Automatic transmission of vessel's own position, speed and heading to other vessels within VHF range.
    • A method of monitoring the position, speed and heading of other vessels within VHF range.
    • The ability to plot the progress, changes in heading and speed of other vessels on a computer (using included software) or a chartplotter.
    • A vessel's name, call sign and MMSI number to call the target vessel on a DSC radio.

    INSTALLATION NOTES:

IF AN EXTERNAL GPS ANTENNA IS USED WITH THE CAMINO-101 IT MUST BE RATED FOR 3.3V. PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU USE A 5V GPS ANTENNA IT WILL CAUSE SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE AND VOID YOUR WARRANTY. FOR BEST RESULTS, IF YOU NEED TO USE THE INTERNAL GPS SYSTEM ON THE CAMINO-101 USE THE AMEC GPS ANTENNA THAT IS AVAILABLE AS AN OPTION WITH THE CAMINO-101.

All sales of Class B Transponders are final. Once programmed with the vessel MMSI, these units cannot be returned.

    Great Product
Purchased Aug 2012 installation was completed without any problem. It worked fine during our vacation to the Thousand Islands, Today we went out on a trip to the middle of Lake Ontario and when I checked the screen there were 27 transmissions targets showing, many of them over 50 miles away and one Base station near Rochester New York which was over 72 Miles away. It’s a great product and I am very happy with it, and would recommend it to anyone considering to install AIS on their boat.

    Finally installed - Working great!
Purchased this last year and finally got it installed. Reception and sensitivity is excellent. I have this interfaced to a Raymarine C80 via Brookhouse multiplexer. Ships are showing up so well. It will make navigating the exits and approaches to LA Harbor much easier (especially at night and in the fog). Customer service has been excellent. I am really glad I selected this unit from Milltech Marine.

    Outstanding
The transponder and antenna switch arrived very quickly after I placed the order. All interface cables and connectors were included. The unit was completely programmed. Installation time was about 20 minutes. All equipment interfaced with my existing chart plotter/ radio seamlessly. Everything worked like it should have. I have already recommended this product to my friends as a excellent choice.
